Unlike a St Bernard or Boston Terrier, the Chinese crested puppy's appearance can be very confusing to someone looking to purchase for a certain "look" as this particular breed goes through a multitude of changes from birth to adult. Colors and patterns can become unrecognizable  Let's use a pink hairless puppy as an example. At birth you may see a very pink puppy with thin white hair on its head, tail and feet. Within 2 weeks this puppy may develop freckles on its face and its hair will become thicker. over the next few weeks it may begin to develop spots on its body and its hair will become long (this is referred to as it's furnishings.)  On the opposite end of this situation, you may find a puppy with beautiful facial markings that you immediately fall in love with. Over a period of a couple of months or more those markings may totally disappear, even very dark markings may fade out. Puppies with dark brown markings may end up with a light blonde marking in it's place.
It is for this reason we would like you to see the different stages these puppies go through. Many times I have had customers ask if it is actually the same puppy they chose at a young age.  I do keep many pictures of my puppies for exactly this reason and can under normal circumstances show their gradual changes. (There have been times that for one reason or another I did not get pictures at all stages.) I have never had a customer change their mind about their chosen puppy because of the appearance changing but feel it is only fair that people should know this can and does happen. My website designer fell in love with one of my puppies "Callie" (whom I still own). Callie had a unique stripe of long black hair next to her right eye that was very beautiful. Callie looked like a toy stuffed animal. As Callie grew my website designer would ask for new photos for her website to be used as her logo at that time. One day I received a call from my website designer asking if I had sent the wrong pictures. Callie's stripe was gone. Callie is still a beautiful dog, however stripeless.
